"Be the employer that you would like to work for."

MTEC is happy to announce a new 3-part series: Preparing Your Organization for a Short or Long Term Absence of the Manager

Whether you are the manager or the owner of a company, many of the details involved in the day-to-day operations may be solely done by yourself. Have you ever wondered what would happen if you became ill or for some other reason couldn't operate your company for a short or extended period of time?

There are many reasons that organizations don't have a succession plan; lack of time and resources to train key personnel; lack of trust that they could do it as well as you; or maybe never really thinking about it. For whatever reason, having a plan can mean the difference between your company surviving in your absence, or suffering financial loss.

All three sessions will be complimentary, but space is limited to 12 participants per session. Register for one, two or all three sessions. The information provided will not only be useful in the case of the manager's absence but for the sustainability and future growth of the business.

Session 1: Thursday, June 13 9:00 - Noon

Short term and Emergency Succession Planning: Creating a Backup for a Key Person

You may be a strong leader or working with a strong leader. "When a strong leader IS THE BUSINESS, it can be impossible to be away from the business, even for a short time."  Every business has a "Key Person" - usually the person who has the keys.  How do you break free from being the business?  It starts with a short term succession plan for something as simple as an extended vacation and may involve something longer term.

This session is a combination of Succession Planning and Risk Management for business owners, key management personnel, or employees that you would like to prepare to become managers .  It includes a process for how to create and implement a short term succession plan, giving you the time away from the business and reducing the risk to the business.

Session 2: Thursday June 20, 9:00-Noon

Basic Business Math-The Numbers That Will Help Your Business Succeed

From mark-ups to margins, and BOGO to Banners, learn how to set your prices and control your costs. This workshop is ideal for the business owners and managers who want to gain better control over the financial side of their business. It is also invaluable in preparing staff to assume management positions to accommodate growth of the business or to adopt the role of a manager when the boss is sick or on holidays.

You don't need to be an accountant to make the numbers work for you. This workshop provides simple, easy to understand solutions to many of the problems that a new or existing business faces in their day-to-day operation.

As a business owner or manager, you have to make decisions anyway. Learn how to make better ones.

Session 3: Thursday, June 27, 9:00-Noon

Developing Coaching Skills

Workplace coaching is a very effective way to improve poor performance and build more productive teams.  Unfortunately, it is an activity very often left off a supervisor's to-do list, mainly because of uncertainty on how to provide effective coaching.  This workshop provides new and emerging supervisors the opportunity to develop their workplace coaching skills. By the end of the session, participants will be able to recognize the benefits of coaching, identify their role in the process and understand the techniques involved in successful coaching.   Participants practice techniques and strategies and walk away with improved coaching skills.
