MTEC has moved! We are now located at 75 Scurfield Boulevard , Unit 3. Our new location is located on a bus route, is on one floor, has larger meeting rooms and free parking for our guests.

MTEC's Semi-Annual Hospitality, Tourism & Retail Job Fair in Partnership with the Winnipeg Convention Centre
 
 

MTEC is holding our Semi-Annual Hospitality, Tourism & Retail Job Fair at the Winnipeg Convention Centre from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013.

New emerit Resources for Accommodations Management Occupations

Skills training, upgrading and certification are all core components of the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council's (CTHRC) mission. They are addressed through our emerit Tourism Training brand. With more than 50 National Occupational Standards, occupation-specific training in paper-based and on-line versions, human resources tools for employers, and Professional Certification.
 

CTHRC is pleased to provide an update on the latest addition to emerit new occupational training and certification products for Hotel General Managers and Director of Housekeeping offered by emerit. These products were developed by tourism and education professionals from across Canada and are part of the emerit products, recognized as the most comprehensive industry-developed training available anywhere in the world.
 

Hotel General Managers and Directors of Housekeeping ensure that accommodations properties run smoothly, generate profit, and deliver high quality guest experiences. In addition, they are great leaders, excelling at motivating and inspiring employees to create a true guest service culture.
 

Hotel General Manager

Developed by tourism and education professionals from across Canada, emerit Training Solutions are recognized as "the best hospitality training and assessment available." emerit is proud to offer new occupational training and certification products for both Hotel General Manager and Director of Housekeeping.
 

The new emerit Hotel General Manager National Occupational Standards cover the entire spectrum of skills and knowledge required of an individual charged with running an accommodations business. The standards cover six major categories:

  • Operations
  • Guest Service
  • Marketing
  • HR Management
  • Business Management
  • Leadership

Certification and the related Certified Hotel General Manager (CHGM) designation will be available later this year.
 

Director of Housekeeping

In late 2012, emerit launched the National Occupational Standards and Professional Certification for Director of Housekeeping. Both products cover the skills and knowledge required to be successful in the occupation, and include eight major categories:

Upcoming Safety Events in Winnipeg

 

The Day of Mourning, held annually on April 28 ,is a nationally recognized day commemorating workers who lives have been lost or injured in the workplace. This event brings awareness that safety should not be taken for granted and everyone should be held responsible to provide a safe and healthy workplace. This year, the SAFE Workers of Tomorrow's annual Day of Mourning Leader Walk will take place on Friday April 26, 2013.The walk begins at 11:45am and goes until 12:45pm, starting at the Union Centre (275 Broadway, Winnipeg) and will travel west along Broadway to the Manitoba Legislative Building (450 Broadway, Winnipeg). Step for Life - Walking for Families of Workplace Tragedy is a fun 5km fundraising walk to help support families affected by workplace tragedy who have suffered from a workplace fatality, life altering injury or occupational disease. It raises awareness to all Canadians about injury prevention and the importance of safety and health in the workplace. The North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week will soon be here. Does your company have a plan in place to celebrate this event?
