The Importance of Leadership to Your Business

Leadership is about guiding and directing. Leaders see the "big picture" and inspire people to accomplish great things. Managers guide people, as well as establish processes and create rules.

Businesses need both leadership and management to thrive. If you look at successful leaders, they have something in common. They know how to negotiate, and how to compromise. Negotiation is required to get their point across as well as determine the other person's viewpoint. It should result in a win, win solution. It may involve compromising to arrive at the best solution, where both parties feel heard and their opinions respected.

Leadership is probably the most critical at the start-up of a business, or when it is experiencing financial difficulty. It has been said that great leaders are born, not made, but we believe that it is possible to gain the skills required to be a great leader through education and training.

This 3 hour session is perfect for anyone who is currently in a supervisory or management role.

Outlet Collection of Winnipeg Opening in May

It is exciting to see all the new development happening on Sterling Lyon Parkway! First it was IKEA and Cabela's, now a new fashion outlet mall and hotel are scheduled to open this spring.

Over the past few years Polo Park Shopping Centre has experienced a large expansion and Kildonan Place is currently renovating with a completion date planned for this summer.

All of these retailers will draw tourists from across Manitoba, other provinces, and the US. All of these businesses will require employees.

We know that no matter how fantastic the businesses will be, the first impressions that visitors have will be lasting. Well trained front line employees, supported by strong, well trained managers can make the difference of those visitors/customers purchasing or not purchasing items from those businesses and more importantly having a positive experience and spreading the word. A business can spend thousands of dollars advertising to get customers in the door. A bad experience can keep them from returning.

The Manitoba Tourism Education Council has been training employees currently working in the Tourism and Hospitality industry since 1989. In 2010 we added the Retail Industry to our mandate.

In 2014 MTEC opened the Manitoba Tourism Education College, a not-for-profit Private Vocational School that trains new employees to work in the Hospitality and Retail Industries in Manitoba. The comprehensive training that is delivered in the college will not only prepare the future employees to provide fantastic customer service and deal with difficult situations, it will also train them how to save a life. All students receive Emergency First Aid/ CPR Level C with AED Level 1 Certification.

To prepare for a busy summer in Winnipeg, we are offering our "NEW" Winnipeg BEST Ambassador Program on May 3rd 1:00pm-3:00pm. As part of our mandate to keep our curriculum current and relevant, we have just updated our Winnipeg BEST Ambassador Program.
