When Businesses Succeed - When Businesses Fail - Who Gets the Credit?

"What is Leadership and How Important is it?"

Leadership is about guiding and directing. Leaders see the "big picture" and inspire people to accomplish great things. Managers guide people, as well as establish processes and create rules. Leadership is the "make or break" factor for a new business start-up, those facing increased competition, when going through rapid or intense change, or attempting to scale from one level to the next. So if you are in a slow growth, steady business, leadership may not be a high priority.

It has been said that great leaders are born, not made, but we believe that it is possible to gain the skills required to be a great leader through education and training.

MTEC'S Spring Job Fair - RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg - April 1, 2015

Thinking about your recruitment needs for this spring and summer? MTEC is holding our semi-annual Job Fair at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015.

This will be the perfect opportunity to find qualified employees from the many people that are currently seeking employment. We have had close to 500 job seekers in attendance at our past job fairs.

The Manitoba Training and Education Centre, our new Private Vocational School, is offering our next Line Cook Training Programs on February 9th and again in April. This 8 week comprehensive training program is delivered by industry professionals in the classroom and a commercial kitchen. Students will not only gain the education and skill to be a Line Cook, they will have gained practical experience through their work practicum.

Manitoba is experiencing rapid growth in the hospitality and restaurant industry. MTEC opened the school for two purposes: to provide students with training and experience that will assist them in gaining employment and excelling at their careers, and to meet the current and forecasted need for well-trained employees for the industry.

Our next 8 week Front Desk Clerk Training Program and Housekeeping Room Attendant Training Programs are both scheduled to start on March 9th. All of our training programs are based on nationally recognized occupational standards.

New Safety Workshop at Safe Hospitality

Instances of workplace violence are becoming more common events, no workplace is immune. The costs involving violence in the workplace can be staggering. Worker absenteeism, worker compensation costs, loss of productivity, negative media coverage and the psychological impact on workers can be devastating.

Learning ways of lowering the risk of workplace violence is essential to any business's success. The Manitoba Workplace Safety & Health Regulation, Part 11, requires that employers must assess the risk of violence to workers at their workplace and create a violence prevention policy.

Violence Awareness in the Workplace training will give participants the skill set necessary to assess and minimize potential violent threats. Participants will learn ways to protect themselves and others, and techniques to identify and avert a potential violent situation from escalating. It will discuss how having policies, procedures, and a plan in place can potentially save lives!

This workshop is geared toward supervisors, managers, safety committee members/representatives, or anyone having a general interest in workplace violence prevention.
