Canada Jobs Grant Information Session for Tourism & Hospitality Employers

 

The Province will be giving a presentation about the Canada Jobs Grant at MTEC on Thursday, January 15 at 9:00am. The presentation will explain how the Canada Jobs Grant works and how it can be extremely beneficial in subsidizing your employee training. There will be time allowed for questions.

THERMËA Spa Opens January 15th, 2015

 

MTEC would like to congratulate the Nordik Group in opening the new THERMËA Spa in Winnipeg!   

 

MTEC has been honoured to work with the management team of THERMËA Spa and are looking forward to seeing this unique spa open and thrive in Winnipeg.  

 

Manitoba has been chosen for Nordik's second location in Canada and it is located on the Crescent Drive Golf Course.  Opening date is January 15th, 2015.

 

 

The Manitoba Training and Education Centre Congratulates Our First Graduates!

 

Our first training programs for Front Desk Clerk and Housekeeping Room Attendant started November 17th. Congratulations to our first graduating class.  

 

In addition to curriculum based on emerit National Occupational Standards, students received Emergency First Aid, WHMIS, Manitoba BEST Service Excellence, Winnipeg BEST Ambassador Program, Teambuilding & Conflict Resolution as well as many other training sessions.

 

Many thanks to the Hilton Winnipeg Airport Suites, for accepting our first class of graduates for their work practicum.

 

The Manitoba Training and Education Centre's Next Training Programs to Begin in January

 

The Manitoba Training and Education Centre will continue to meet the current and projected shortfall of employees to work in the hospitality industry with our 6 to 8 week training programs.

 

Our 8 week Line Cook Training Program and 6 week Food and Beverage Server Training Program will start on January 19th and prepare students to hit the ground running.

 

The Line Cook Training Program is delivered in the classroom as well as in a commercial kitchen. Students will graduate with the National Food Handler Certificate and be ready for immediate employment. All our programs include a 30 hour work practicum.

 

The next training program dates are:

  • Line Cook Training Program - January 19th, 2015 - 8 weeks
  • Food and Beverage Server Training Program - January 19th, 2015 - 6 weeks
  • Front Desk Clerk Training Program - March 9th, 2015 - 6 weeks
  • Housekeeping Room Attendant Training Program - March 9th, 2015 - 6 weeks

Safety Corner

 

National Food Safety Training Program (NFSTP) Available at MTEC 

 

Restaurants Canada developed the National Food Safety Training Program in 2004 after seeing a growing demand for standardized food safety education from operators from coast to coast. The program is designed to train and certify employees of quick-service, full-service, chain and independent foodservice establishments to meet a national standard of food safety.   

The course content covers: 

  1. INTRODUCTION TO FOOD SAFETY
  2. BIOLOGICAL HAZARDS
  3. FOOD SAFETY HAZARDS (Chemical, Physical,Allergen)
  4. FACILITIES DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
  5. EQUIPMENT & UTENSILS
  6. CONTROL OF HAZARDS (from purchasing to service/distribution)
  7. CLEANING & SANITATION
  8. PEST CONTROL
  9. EMPLOYEE & VISITOR ILLNESS, INJURY, AND HYGIENE
  10. EDUCATION AND TRAINING
  11. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT (HACCP)

This 8 hour workshop includes a workbook and exam. The NFSTP will be offered at our location and throughout Manitoba upon request.   

Who should attend?

  • All owners, managers and supervisors of food service establishments.
  • All food service personnel who are responsible for the receiving, preparing and serving of food.

In addition to our regularly scheduled day sessions and to better serve and accommodate industry professionals, we are now offering the NFSTP over two evenings and on Saturdays! Join us on Wednesday February 25 and Thursday February 26, 2015, from 5:00pm-9:00pm, or Saturday February 28, 2015. The cost of the program is $115.00+GST, this includes a manual as well as the exam (70% passing rate).
