3-Part Business Training Series - Preparing Your Business for the Long or Short Term Absence of the Manager
Whether
you are the manager or the owner of a company, many of the details
involved in the day-to-day operations may be solely done by yourself.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you became ill or for some
other reason couldn't operate your company for a short or extended
period of time?
There
are many reasons that organizations don't have a succession plan; lack
of time and resources to train key personnel; lack of trust that they
could do it as well as you; or maybe never really thinking about it. For
whatever reason, having a plan can mean the difference between your
company surviving in your absence, or suffering financial loss.
All
three sessions will be complimentary, but space is limited to 12
participants per session. Register for one, two or all three sessions.
The information provided will not only be useful in the case of the
manager's absence but for the sustainability and future growth of the
business.
Session 1: Wednesday, September 11, 9:00am-12:00pm

A Rave Review for the Restaurant Industry
May 23 2013 Posted by: larryrussell (Excerpts From The Globe and Mail, May 22, 2013, By Todd Hirsch)
Aside
from the restaurant and bar industry's provision of an excellent
economic indicator, there is another reason why it is worth some
promotion and attention: It's the sector through which millions of
Canadians first enter the labour market.
They
may have waited on tables, as I did. Or sold hot dogs and cotton candy
at a summer fair. They may have worked as a dish washer or short-order
cook. The food industry provides great summer jobs for high-school and
postsecondary students. For many, the food industry is the first point
of entry into the labour market.
Despite
its contribution to the gross domestic product, the restaurant and bar
industry remains underappreciated and often ignored. But when we
consider the role it plays in the working lives of so many Canadians -
the first paycheques we earned, the skills we learned, the stresses we
managed - we would be silly to ignore it. It's the foundation on which much of the labour force is built.

Training Young & New Workers Young
and new workers are commonly defined as people between the ages of 15
and 24, new immigrants to our province, or anyone in a new job, whether
new to the workplace or experiencing a change in job duties. Young
and new workers are an asset, bringing fresh eyes and new ideas to a
workplace. However, young and new workers are especially vulnerable to
workplace injuries and illnesses due to lack of experience and ability
to recognize hazards. Injuries at work most often occur when safety and
health training has not been provided for the task being performed.
Every year nearly 7000 Manitoba's young workers aged 15-24 report
injuries to WCB. It
is the responsibility of an employer to train all new workers to
protect themselves from hazards during course of their duties.
Supervisors are also legally responsible for their workers. The employer
must ensure that their Workplace Safety and Health Program include a
plan for training workers and supervisors in safe work practices and
procedures. If the employer fails to comply with the WSH Act, they may
be subject to prosecution. The Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health Regulation 217/2006
legislation states; "every employer is to provide to all his workers
such information, instruction, training, supervision and facilities to
ensure so far as is reasonably practicable, the safety, health and
welfare at work of all his workers." The Regulation also requires that
"an employer must ensure that a worker who works with or near a
controlled product or performs work involving the manufacture of a
product receives training in the content required to be on a supplier
label, a workplace label, the purpose and significance of information on
the material safety data sheet, and also procedures for safely storing,
using and handling the control product." Look for our upcoming safety training workshops: - First Aid/CPR with Level 1 AED - July 9
- Food Handler Certification - July 12
- Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) - July 23
- Safety Committee Representative Training - July 23
- Supervisor/Manager Safety Roles & Responsibilities - August 7
- Train the Trainer - August 13 & 14
