What's New
MTEC Adds New Private Vocational School!
On behalf of the Manitoba Tourism Education Council (MTEC) Board of Directors, I am happy to announce that we have added the, Manitoba Training and Education Centre as an associated not-for-profit corporation. The new corporation is a Private Vocational School that will deliver 6 to 8 week
training programs to prepare future employees to work in the
Hospitality Industry in Manitoba. The first four approved training
programs are:
- Line Cook,
- Food & Beverage Server,
- Housekeeping Room Attendant,
- Front Desk Clerk.
We want to thank
the industry for its letters of support for the new school. For more
information about the new Private Vocation School please CLICK HERE to see our brochure.
The Manitoba
Tourism Education Council (MTEC) will not change our current programming
and will continue to offer a variety of complimentary and subsidized
workshops in Winnipeg and throughout Manitoba. The addition of the
vocational school was a natural progression for MTEC to be able to meet
the hospitality, tourism and retail industries in Manitoba's current and
growing employment needs by developing a well-trained, professional
workforce.

What's New
Strong Partnerships
MTEC and Manitoba
Start are once again partnering to offer a training program for New
Comers. Our past two training programs successfully trained Front Desk
Agents, Banquet Servers and Line Cooks. Many of these trained
professionals are now working in our industry, here in Winnipeg as well
as in rural locations.
The next training
program will focus on the occupation of Event Coordinator, with the aim
of providing these new comers with Canadian Workplace Essential Skills
to assist them in making the transition to finding employment and
working in Manitoba.
Many of these highly
skilled participants have an extensive background in marketing, event
planning, executive administration, and graphic arts, with several of
them previously owning and operating their own businesses.
Several of them have
international hospitality experience ranging from time spent in China
and Switzerland to the Ukraine and the Philippines.
If you would like more
information about this program or any of the participants, please
contact Lori Slobodian at MTEC 204-957-7437 or by email at lslobodian@mtec.mb.ca.

Health and safety education starts with orientation when a person
joins and organization or is transferred to a new job. It is the
responsibility of the employer to train all new workers to protect
themselves from hazards in the course of their duties. New workers are
especially vulnerable to workplace injuries and illnesses due to lack of
experience. The ability to recognize hazards can prevent health and
safety illnesses and injuries at the workplace. The employer must
ensure that their workplace safety and health program includes a plan
for training workers and supervisors in safe work practices and
procedures. The Workplace Safety and Health Regulation now require
safety and health orientations for all new workers. Look for our upcoming New Worker Orientation course coming this fall!
