Disengaged Employees - The True Cost to Your Business
"How to Obtain & Sustain Employee Engagement"

It's a new year, but as supervisors and managers, we face the same old problems. Being disengaged is one of the main causes for employee turn-over and poor performance. Disengaged employees often spread their discontentment throughout an organization, which can have a negative effect on other employees.

During this 3 hour session, you will gain a better understanding of what "engagement" is and why it matters so much to your business. You will also gain ideas on how to obtain and sustain employee engagement in your organization.

WHEN: February 10, 2016
TIME: 9:00am-12:00pm
COST: Complimentary (one time only!); Regular $40.00+GST

Disability Sensitivity-Creating an Inclusive Workplace

Creating an inclusive workforce that capitalizes on people's strengths, and embraces diversity, can be a sound business strategy. When we interview and select potential employees, we look at what they can do, versus what they can't do in our workplace. Many times providing minor accommodations can make it possible for qualified employees to work in, and be a valuable asset to your organizations.

According to Statistics Canada in 2012 - The employment rate for persons with a disability was 54%, compared to a national average of 6.9%. When we talk about an inclusive workforce, we mean one that does not discriminate because of race, religion, sexual orientation or someone with a disability.

When seeking employees - look for what someone can do, not what they can't do. An inclusive workforce is not them and us - it is "US."

MTEC Job Board

Did you know that we have a Job Board that is complimentary for the Tourism, Hospitality and Retail industries in Manitoba? Advertising vacant positions on our job board can save a business thousands of dollars in recruiting costs. Advertising on-line and in the newspaper is expensive and our job board postings get picked up and advertised with the most popular on-line recruiter.

Employee assisting agencies throughout Manitoba are contacted regularly throughout the year to ensure that job-seekers have this job-seeking tool at their disposal. During 2015 almost 92,000 visitors viewed our Job Bank specifically to land a job in this sector. That works out to a monthly average of 7,590 unique visitors.

Safety Corner

ATTENTION:     Restaurant & Food Service Industry (Rate Code 70106)
Participants of SAFE Hospitality Training

MTEC has had the pleasure of administering the SAFE Hospitality Program since 2005, delivering free and subsidized training and consulting to thousands in the Restaurant and Food Service industries and beyond. But, effective, April 1, 2016, we will no longer be able to provide these services, unless we receive majority support* for the continuation of SAFE Hospitality as a safety association.

The Association is able to operate and provide services because Members of the Restaurant and Food Service Industry paid a levy of 6% to 7.84% as part of their WCB contributions. Safe Manitoba has proposed a new, reduced levy of only 1-3% for Safe Hospitality to continue to operate.

In addition to free and subsidized training, Safe Hospitality also assures owners, managers and others in the industry are aware of current legislation and issues affecting the industry. Having a safety association like SAFE Hospitality will also make businesses in the 70106 Rate Code, Restaurant and Food Service Operations, eligible for future financial incentives currently being planned by SAFE Work Manitoba. Businesses who are not part of a safety association will not be eligible for the incentive programs.

If you would like to discuss the continuation of SAFE Hospitality, please call or email, Dave Kramer at:
Dave Kramer, SAFE Work Manitoba
Phone: (204) 954-4402
E-mail: dkramer@safeworkmanitoba.ca

If you would like to support the continuation of the SAFE Hospitality Association please fill out, sign and fax or email the attached form. Submitting this form implies support. You are not obligated to anything beyond that.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Shannon Fontaine
CEO, Manitoba Tourism Education Council (MTEC)

*Majority Support is defined as 50%+ of the rate code as calculated by payroll expenditures.
