MTEC Empowers Manitoba Businesses with Education to Navigate Difficult and Potentially Dangerous Situations

In response to the increase in crime impacting the hospitality and tourism industry in Manitoba, the Manitoba Tourism Education Council (MTEC) unveils comprehensive education and resources to help businesses effectively manage complex situations and understand when to get help by calling 911.

The new, FREE resources include:

  1. Practical Training & Consultation Sessions: Two, 3‐hour hybrid (classroom and ZOOM) sessions take a look at current, real‐world scenarios and offer practical insights and suggestions for business owners and managers.
  2. Strategic Insights via Video: One‐hour online video highlighting essential strategies and actionable tactics for business owners and managers is now available. There are also additional shorter, 20‐25 minute videos in development that will feature subjects like Tactical Communications, and Being Aware Of Your Surroundings. 
  3. Online Training: Handing Difficult Situations and When You Shouldn’t ... This 75‐Minute online training is for front‐line employees, supervisors and managers and delivers key content via, videos, slides and test questions.

These resources were developed in collaboration with an experienced tourism and hospitality safety consultant, a representative from the Community Services Division of the Winnipeg Police Service, and training specialists. Content includes a discussion of current criminal activity in Manitoba, guidance on identifying situations warranting police intervention, and measures businesses can implement to safeguard their personnel and property during challenging and potentially dangerous situations.

  1. Personal Safety – Being Aware of Your Surroundings & People Around You
    Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 9:00am – 12:00pm
  2. Strategies For Combating Crime Impacting the Hospitality & Tourism Industry
    Wednesday, October 4 from 9:00am – 12:00pm
