Who We Are
The Manitoba Tourism Education Council (MTEC) was established in 1989 as a not-for-profit corporation that receives provincial funding to assist the tourism industry in Manitoba in remaining viable through training their owners, managers, supervisors and employees.
MTEC has worked with thousands of tourism professionals throughout the province. Each year MTEC trains roughly 11,000 individuals on-line, at the training centre in Winnipeg and group sessions across the province.
In 2020, as a result of the pandemic, MTEC changed its business model to the majority of training being delivered on-line and via ZOOM webinars as opposed to classroom training. As a result, the council actually increased its training delivered in 2020 to 15,500 individuals and in 2021, 16,800.
ZOOM webinars not only allowed training to continue during the various lockdowns and restrictions; it expanded its reach to all areas of the province and greatly increased the number of individuals trained during that time-period.
The Mission of the Manitoba Tourism Education Council is to enhance the performance and ensure the sustainability of Manitoba’s tourism and hospitality industry by delivering relevant training and human resource development.
