Through community-lead relationships, the Security Officer is responsible for maintaining an inclusive, safe, and secure environment for employees, site tenants, and visitors. Reporting directly to the Security Supervisor, the Security Officer will support The Forks and its shared goals around Community Safety.

A Security Officer is someone who has:
• A valid Manitoba Security Guard License, an accredited First Aid certificate, and Smart Choices certification.
• Physical stamina to walk, kneel, stand, climb stairs, ride a bike, and lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds while working outdoors in varying weather conditions, for up to 8+ hours.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to attentively listen to community members, is able to de-escalate conflicts peacefully, and maintain a calm demeanour under pressure.
• The ability to work with a diverse community of varying cultures, perspectives, languages, and backgrounds.
• Keen attention to detail and situational awareness to proactively identify potential security risks or safety hazards.

A Security Officer is someone who:
• Maintains accurate records and incident reports, including a logbook documenting interactions and security-related activities.
• Conducts patrols and inspections for physical and safety hazards, monitors and responds to alarms and incidents, and reports issues accordingly.
• Provides ongoing communication around safety concerns, as well as general feedback and suggestions for improvement.
• Builds relationships and establishes trust with employees, tenants, and visitors, through a people first approach.
• During incidents on site, works collaboratively with external contacts, including community outreach agencies, emergency services, and adjacent stakeholder organizations,
• Is available to work a rotating schedule that will include weekends, holidays, evenings, and other shifts as required.
• Is committed to a positive visitor experience by providing remarkable customer service and offering support to the community.
• Is dedicated to continued professional growth and development.
